Maria completed her Bachelors of Science degree in Child and Family Studies from Portland State University and began her career in child welfare supervising a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program in Clackamas County, OR. After advocating for children within the child welfare system, Maria wanted to make a greater impact with families and children and began working for Children’s Administration in 2010 as a CPS investigator. In 2012 Maria completed the CWTAP program through Eastern Washington University and obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work. After graduation Maria transitioned to CFWS casework and then became a CFWS supervisor, establishing a high performing unit focused on child safety and family well-being. In addition to her career in child welfare, Maria also pursued clinical licensure and for two years provided sexual assault trauma therapy to children and adults in Cowlitz County.

Maria joined the Alliance in 2016 as a Coach, training and mentoring the child welfare workforce in an effort to enhance child welfare practice across the region. She believes that a career in child welfare is one of the hardest jobs to face, and has made a commitment to support staff in any way possible.
