Learn in the classroom and in the field
If you are currently employed by the Children's Administration or a MSW student, you may be interested in the Child Welfare Training and Advancement Program or CWTAP. CWTAP is a program geared to preparing employees or prospective employees for social work practice in child welfare.
CWTAP students complete their practicum experiences in selected Children’s Administration (CA) offices in Washington state, where they receive specialized practicum training and hands-on casework experience. Field experiences focus on public child welfare topics, such as legal requirements, child protection, permanency planning, solution based casework and cultural competency.
Students admitted to CWTAP receive financial assistance. After graduation, they seek employment with CA and agree to work for the same period of time for which they received assistance. Many CWTAP graduates are serving in leadership positions in CA today.
Currently, only MSW students can participate in CWTAP but a bachelor of arts in social welfare is being developed. For more information, contact your area CWTAP director.
