Washington State, like all states, faces a shortage of qualified child welfare social workers. There is also a high need for strong leadership and collaboration to improve child welfare practice, and drive innovative programs into the future. The Child Welfare Training and Advancement Program (CWTAP) is a way to educate and train new social workers, some of whom will be social workers throughout their careers, and some of whom will eventually move into leadership positions. The Alliance supports CWTAP programs by providing training for CWTAP students who will be or who are employed by Department of Children, Youth, and Families. The Alliance is able to provide continuity between preservice and inservice education and training through the CWTAP program.
