Redesigned Regional Core Training (RCT) Has Launched!

Updated Regional Core Training for Child Welfare Professionals

On November 6, 2017, the Alliance in collaboration with Children’s Administration launched a newly redesigned Regional Core Training (RCT) curriculum based on feedback from participants, supervisors, surveys and focus groups. We also benchmarked our course content and, with other university-based partnership training programs, consulted with leading experts in child welfare and assessed the impact of new and innovative instructional methods.

You talked and we listened. What we learned from our evaluation process is that Children’s Administration frontline workers and their supervisors want rich learning experiences with practical hands-on, field-based opportunities. They are also looking for instructional content tailored to their specific job responsibilities. We heard that additional job shadowing would enhance skill development and that our region-based, classroom-and-field training is highly valued.

Training Improvement Highlights

  • One-on-One Coaching: Child welfare case assignments coupled with one-on-one coaching have been added to the training schedule to strengthen skills and improve effectiveness.
  • Self-Awareness Building: New content focuses on critical thinking, self-assessment, the role of implicit bias, and meaningful reflection in gaining insight and staying motivated.
  • Simulation Week: An added training feature brings our statewide cohorts together in one location for a week of immersive, simulation-based learning that focuses on building a safety-centered practice, conducting effective child and adult interviews, and testifying in court with confidence.
  • Program-Tailored Learning: Prior to completion, we work with participants to synthesize what they’ve learned by practicing and honing new skills that relate specifically to their program areas.

Enhanced Training Calendar

The redesigned RCT curriculum calendar is built on blended learning opportunities that include the latest in classroom content reinforced with experiential activities such as simulating child/parent interviews and court testimony.

Next Steps

Children’s Administration and the Alliance are excited and proud to bring you redesigned RCT.  Once redesigned RCT launches, CA, the Alliance, and Partners for our Children will conduct rigorous ongoing evaluation including participant surveys & interviews and structured observations from non-participants to ensure the curriculum meets participant needs while also staying agile with changing CA practice and policy. CA and the Alliance have formed a collaborative RCT workgroup to manage the ongoing assessment, evaluation and update of RCT.

For supervisors to register their newly hired child welfare workers for Regional Core Training (RCT), please go to Allianceforchildwelfare.org -> Training for Social Workers -> Regional Core Training or CLICK HERE. Once the registration is complete, an Alliance coach will contact the newly hired employees and their supervisor to provide the training calendar and cohort information.
